Aniela is a 3 year old female Dachshund Cross. Pretty little girl with tan silky long coat and a white neck, looks like a long coat Dachshund. Aniela is only very small, she stands at 27 cm and she weighs just 5kg. Aniela is a very affectionate little lady. She loves her cuddles. She likes to be carried but she walks well on the lead. She likes other dogs but she is a little wary of big dogs and she will bark if she is frightened of something. She gets on with her foster mums cat okay but tried to play with the neighbour’s cat until he chased after her! No experience of children but as she is so non aggressive we can’t see her not being good with children.
Left outside the shelter crammed in a small crate with her daughter Angie (who has just arrived to the UK and homed to a family in Lincoln) when all the volunteers were there working, so they must have crept down to the gate and dumped them! They were then discovered by a Dutch volunteer called Aneila. Aniela has a low level Leish count which is being treated to bring the blood level right down, so she should be fit to travel on 29th June.
Leish is a condition that will always be present in her body (like we have herpes coldsores) as long as she isn’t stressed and won’t get bitten again by the sandfly, which she won’t in the UK, there is no reason to expect the level to rise again but it needs monitoring each year. The treatment is a tablet a day for 5 months and 7 months off – a box of tablets cost £2.50 for 30 tablets so the cost is minimal.
Fosterer’s report: She’s a great little girl to look after. Easy, no food guarding, very affectionate and loving and always in search of a lap to get cuddles. Although she is only 3 years old, she is an ‘old lady’; all she wants is to be picked up, carried, on your lap and fussed. She does not want to play and is not at all active. She would suit an older person very much. I don’t think she would want small children to play with her – no aggression it is just that I think it would worry her. She definitely wants a quiet life. Walking, she likes to go outside the house for 5 minutes and then wants to come in. A small garden would be enough exercise for her.
